Kangirsuk Mourns Passing of Mayor Etua Kaukai

Etua Kaukai, mayor of Kangirsuk and vice-president of Nunavik Investment Corp., has died, according to a statement released by the corporation. The precise date and cause of Kaukai’s death have not been made public. David Tordjman, general director of Nunavik Investment Corp., described Kaukai as someone who consistently worked to advance the interests of people in the region, with a particular focus on economic development. "Etua was somebody that always cared for moving the people forward through economic development and he wanted to see them succeed," Tordjman said. "He was a kind and gentle soul that just cared and wanted to be with people and just help. It seemed that was his purpose."

Kaukai served on the board of Nunavik Investment Corp. for more than a decade, holding the position of vice-president for approximately five years.
