Fatal Crashes Under Investigation in Nova Scotia
Multiple deaths and ongoing inquiries follow two separate highway collisions

Two separate fatal motor vehicle collisions in Nova Scotia resulted in three deaths and have prompted ongoing investigations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The incidents occurred within two days of each other, with both involving collisions between passenger vehicles and larger trucks on major provincial highways.
On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, emergency officials responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 104 near Beaver Meadow in Antigonish County. The RCMP reported that the crash took place around 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of a construction zone. According to initial police findings, a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck towing a trailer rear-ended a Honda CRV, which was slowed in traffic near the construction site. The force of the collision pushed the Honda CRV forward, causing it to strike a semi-trailer that was also stopped or slowed in the area.
The driver and passenger of the Honda CRV, identified as a 67-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, both from Paq’tnkek, were pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the Dodge Ram 2500 or the semi-trailer. The RCMP stated that their investigation into the Antigonish County crash remains ongoing.
Two days later, on Friday, June 26, 2026, RCMP in Barrington, Nova Scotia, were called to the scene of a deadly collision on Highway 103. The incident occurred between exits 29 and 30 at approximately 6:45 a.m. According to police, a Hyundai Elantra crossed the centre-line of the highway and collided head-on with a tractor trailer. The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai, a 37-year-old man from Shelburne, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 50-year-old driver of the tractor trailer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
A collision reconstructionist from the RCMP was dispatched to the scene on Highway 103 to assist with the investigation. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is also supporting the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Both incidents occurred on highways that serve as key transportation corridors within Nova Scotia. Highway 104 is a major east-west route linking communities across the province, while Highway 103 connects the South Shore region to the Halifax area and beyond. Construction zones and varying traffic conditions are recurring features on these routes during the summer months, which can contribute to changes in traffic flow and potential hazards.
The RCMP have not released further details regarding the factors that may have contributed to either collision. In both cases, the investigations remain active. The deaths of the individuals involved have been formally acknowledged by authorities, but names have not been released. The Paq’tnkek community, referenced in connection with the Antigonish County crash, is one of the Mi’kmaq First Nations in Nova Scotia.
